Chris Dyer reports that three bills addressing LGBT concerns have been introduced in the Unicameral and that 71 people have signed up for domestic partner benefits extended by the University of Nebraska.
Should the Judiciary Committee take any of these bills seriously enough to schedule hearings, they will appear here.

  • LB 380, introduced by Sen. Sarah Howard (D-Omaha); would lift ban prohibiting qualified same-sex couples from becoming adoptive parents (Note:  the focus of LB380 is much broader than a same-sex issue alone; although it does not prohibit same sex couple adoptions, it primarily addresses the issue of second parent adoption by ALL qualified couples.)
  • LB 385, introduced by Sen. Jeremy Nordquist (D-Omaha); would allow qualified same-sex couples to become foster parents via the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services
  • (LB 485), introduced by Sen. Danielle Conrad (D-Lincoln); would extend protections to people based on sexual orientation under the state’s non-discrimination law; doesn't include gender identity protections
