New revival of Sondheim's Company makes Bobby gay and replaces Elaine Stritch, Patti Lupone with a man

What a great excuse to post this superlative performance of Patti Lupone singing "Ladies Who Lunch." A Better Midler without doubt, and Bette probably ate her heart out over this cover which mops the floor with her own, of the same song.

Stritch originated the Stephen Sondheim character, and Lupone also played Joanne in a New York Philharmonic concert production. The old Bobby (portrayed above by Neil Patrick Harris) was straight, with commitment issues and multiple girlfriends. New Bobby is gay, with commitment issues and multiple boyfriends, or, as they say in France, (actually as Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote, as an epigram in the January 1849 issue of his journal Les Guêpes): plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
Joanne's replacement is Tony winner ("Cabaret") Alan Cumming.
