Omaha's Fire Chief, who will probably be fired when Jean Stothert becomes mayor, just axed her husband

Mayor-elect Jean Stothert's husband, Joseph, is a UNMC trauma surgeon who has been medical director for the Fire Department's emergency medical service for 18 years. He used to be paid almost $60,000 but decided to become an unpaid volunteer when his wife became a councilwoman, because of city charter conflict-of-interest rules governing contracts.
     Fire Chief Mike McConnell Physician has sent Stothert a letter saying that in the last several months, her husband has not worked closely with the department and that it would proceed in another direction to better serve its needs.
