Piper Cubs, as far as you can see

The above photo was taken at a 75th anniversary gathering last summer, which commemorated the plane in which most WWII pilots learned to fly and which ceased to be manufactured in 1947. (In 1949 the Super Cub was introduced.) More than 19,000 Piper Cubs were manufactured or sold in kit form.
The world's most popular plane, however, is a Cessna: the 172, now called a "Skyhawk." More than 43,000 of those have been produced since 1955. 172s/Skyhawks are exceptionally safe aircraft, probably due to their forgiving handling and unhawk-like slow speed.
