Nebraska Family Council, Catholic Church, get LGBT Fair Employment ordinance killed in Lincoln, NE

In May, following adoption of an LGBT ordinance in Omaha, the Lincoln City Council also voted to do so in the capitol city on a 5-0 vote with the two Republican councilmen abstaining. The Nebraska Family council immediately started gathering 2500 petitions to halt implementation of the law, requiring the city council to either let the ordinance die or put it on the ballot. Petitions were gathered at every Catholic church in Lincoln and four times the required number of signatures were collected.
Last Thursday, sponsoring city councilman Carl Eskridge said he has no particular date in mind to put the law to a vote. It won't be on the November statewide election ballot and may not be on the city ballot in May. A charter amendment proposal may be put on the ballot at a regularly scheduled election or a special election.

  1. Oh, tell them all to shut it. Those churches that helped gather all those signatures should be paying there fair share in taxes!
