MO GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin: 'legitimate rape' victims have biological defenses to prevent pregnancy

Claire McCaskill, trailing by almost nine percentage points pointed out that a 1996 study by the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists disagrees with her extremist Republican opponent:
It found “rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency” and is “a cause of many unwanted pregnancies” — an estimated “32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year.”
McCaskill's response:
It is beyond comprehension that someone can be so ignorant about the emotional and physical trauma brought on by rape. The ideas that Todd Akin has expressed about the serious crime of rape and the impact on its victims are offensive.
Her full statement reminded Missouri voters that in 2011 Akin cosponsored a bill to redefine rape and that in 1991 he questioned Missouri's spousal rape law — and then voted for it.
