Kansas City is Google's test bed for ultra-high speed broadband. Instead of 1.5- or 3- or 7- or even 20-megabit Internet connections, Kansas City residents will shortly be able to purchase 1000-megabit broadband at competitive prices. As increasing numbers of cash-strapped Americans ditch cable in favor of content (like Netflix) piped through their internet connection, this kind of initiative must be sending Comcast, Cox, Time Warner, etc. to their respective fainting couches.
Here's a Google video on its KC initiative, followed by a Wall Street Journal discussion of how Google may offer Internet pay-TV offerings on its ultrafast broadband.
