Broadway composer of A Chorus Line dies at 68

Hamlisch is the 2nd person, after Richard Rogers, to win Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Pulitzer awards.
His most celebrated work, "A Chorus Line," for which he wrote the music, opened on May 21, 1975 at the 299-seat Newman Theatre under the auspices of the New York Shakespeare Festival and  Producer Joseph Papp.
It was an instant smash and on 7/25/1975 it moved to the 1,472 seat Shubert theatre where it remained until April 28, 1990, closing after 6,137 performances which grossed over $149 million, ten times the box office take of the movie. The play has been produced professionally in more than 20 countries.
Hamlisch also scored movies, including The Sting, Sophie's Choice and Ordinary People.
Below: Jason Tam auditions for Paul in the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line" from the documentary Every Little Step, and visibly stuns the Director Bob Avian and the rest of the panel evaluating his performance.
