Instead of engaging Westboro at Montana State University and a local high school, counter rallies were held on campus and at Cooper Park where high school students were encouraged to show up for free ice cream.
Opportunistically confronting Westboro to show how "tolerant" they are, were the Patriot Riders, who never gave a shit about Westboro's disruptions of the funerals of AIDS victims until the church started yelling at the funerals of straight soldiers, and the Knights of Columbus, one of the staunchest allies of the National Organization for Marriage, a group which has disseminated false, defamatory information about gay people.
