Hospitals worried that GOP plan to cut Medicaid after elections could swell numbers of uninsured
As GOP governors, emboldened by the Supreme Court decision on President Barack Obama’s health-care law, balk at Medicaid expansion to meet requirements of the Affordable Care Act, congressional Republicans are clamouring to convert Medicaid into a series of smaller grants to states, as they did in the 90s when they attacked cash-welfare programs.
In Nebraska, autocratic Gov. Dave Heineman, prohibited Vivianne Chaumont, Nebraska's Medicaid director, from attending a legislative meeting on the health care overhaul in Grand Island called by State Senators Kathy Campbell of Lincoln, Jeremy Nordquist of Omaha and Mike Gloor of Grand Island because advocates who support the expansion of the state Medicaid program will be there.
