Supreme Court rules 5-4 to allow strip searches for any arrest, without cause

The editorial page editor of the NYT, Andrew Rosenthal, looks askance at the ruling:
Justice Kennedy said courts are not in a position to second-guess correctional officials in this area. Funny, I thought that was exactly what the courts were supposed to do. If the Supreme Court won’t, who will? ...Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said that exceptions to the ruling were possible “to ensure that we ‘not embarrass the future.’” Well that’s reassuring. How about not embarrassing the present?
