Buddy and Pedro, two inseparable, pair-bonded African penguins at the Toronto Zoo who hooked up as members of a bachelor flock from the Toledo Zoo, belong to a population which is declining by about 2% per year due to competition for food from commercial fisheries and oil pollution.
Since there are only 224,000 left, and since Buddy and Pedro both have great genes, the zoo is splitting them up to see if they will impregnate female penguins.
Bummer.
