Maine same-sex marriage petition drive starts; 5200 of required 57,277 signatures gathered in one day; supporters want 80,000

EqualityMaine targeted heavily attended summer festivals (including yesterday's Bob Dylan concert) and especially Portland, Kennebunk, Biddeford, York, Bangor, Ellsworth and Brunswick on Saturday.

On Sunday, EqualityMaine estimated that they got 5,200 signatures. They want 80,000 to cover any invalid signatures which may be disqualified.
