Earth's moon's asymmetry explained: there were two

NPR reports on a new theory that would explain why the two sides of earth's moon differ so sharply, with the near side's flat lowlands contrasting with the high, mountainous far side.

The theory says a smaller moon careened into our moon and is still there, in the form of mountains.
