1966: The greatest television commercial ever made airs; Alka Seltzer sales go through the roof

This was the greatest TV ad ever made (by Jack Tinker & Partners), not because it was the best (always debatable) but because it broke new ground on television as dramatically as New York's Doyle Dane Bernbach had done in print for Volkswagen (see Beetle ad below).

"No Matter What Shape" set such a high standard for infectiousness, for engaging its audience, for modernity (the ad had, gasp, at least two hand-held camera shots!) and for rising above the surrounding clutter that it permanently raised the bar on what television admen and women could call "top drawer." And yes, it sold a LOT of Alka-Seltzer.
