Rome's mayor defies Italy's interior minister, registers 16 gay marriages performed in Spain, Portugal and U.S.

Same sex marriage remains illegal in Italy and Interior Minister Angelino Alfano recently warned local prefects in a letter that registrations of gay marriages performed outside Italy would be voided.
Nevertheless, Rome's mayor, Ignazio Mariono registered 16 gay couples within walking distance of the Vatican at the city hall reception room. Above: Mariono (center) with Andrea Rubera, left, and Dario de Gregori.
Unlike vulgar Americans, Italians always put on a suit and tie for important stuff.
