Double Oscar winner Alexander Payne and many others turn up to support Omaha LGBT ordinance; Christer Special Victims Unit also turns out in force

Hi! I'm Ron Brown, the receivers* running backs coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers! I live in Memorial Stadium. The ACLU wrote me up!

Alexander Payne shows up to support gay Omahans at
yesterday's LGBT protection hearing. Still frame: KETV
UPDATE: Omaha attorney and Survivor: Marquessa's alumnus John Carroll's letter to (and response from) NU about Ron Brown is here and an AKSARBENT video of antigay testimony so outrageous that it has been embedded on at least 10 other gay and nongay websites is here.

At Tuesday's City Council public hearing on Councilman Ben Gray's pending LGBT protection measure, proponents spoke first and included a surprise appearance by film director Alexander Payne, fresh from receiving his second Oscar (screenwriting, The Descendants.)

The amount of Christers-as-victims breastbeating was truly astonishing and revealed how truly toxic organized religion can be in respect of fostering heterosexual supremacy and flat-out lying.

Deciding what antigay testimony was most offensive to LGBT Omahans would be almost impossible, but University of Nebraska assistant football coach (receivers) Ron Brown's condescending sermonette to councilmembers may well have been the most offputting to those whose opinion on the matter counts most. Note that in Ron Brown's world, antigay Christers are allowed to give fake residential addresses in public hearings, unlike gay folk.

Brown has made a career of foisting his reactionary brand of Christianity on football players and of ignoring separation of church and state in his attempts to proselytize in public schools under the guise of campaigning against alcohol abuse, drunk driving and other problems which are quite solvable without religion.

The Christian Broadcasting Network has made Brown into something of a martyr as it did in the video below which studiously avoids mentioning the toxic, insulting remarks that got Brown in trouble in the first place. (Ironically, Brown himself provided more of a clue to this behavior in Tuesday's hearing than CBN did.)

*Note: AKSARBENT did not realize, until Outsports politely linked to us, that we misidentified Brown as a receivers coach when he is, apparently, something called a running backs coach. Instead of assuming that Outsports knew what it was talking about, AKSARBENT stupidly decided to "research" the issue more fully. Below is the result of that research, from both Huskers.com and WikiPedia's informative entry on Nebraska's illustrious assistant coach. Moral: Some mornings it's not worth our time to chew through the leather restraints.

  1. you left out the part that he's apparently so white that he is not allowed to sing the song 'brick house'.
