Trailer: Alexander Payne's current release, The Descendants, opens this weekend; his next film, Nebraska is in preproduction.

NOTE: The Descendents will be shown starting November 23, at FilmStreams. The special Waikiki party preview on November 20 (with introduction and Q&A by director Alexander Payne) has been sold out.

Alexander Payne, the Oscar-winning Omaha director of Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt and Sideways (all except the last were filmed partially or mostly in Omaha) has a new movie opening this weekend in limited release: The Descendents. Because the film opens on a packed weekend against a new Twilight movie and Happy Feet Two, Eric Eisenberg thinks the movie will be "absolutely buried." AKSARBENT, disagrees because a) we root for the home team and and b) we don't think moviegoers attracted to an ADULT movie will be waylaid by Vampire Twinks or Cartoon Penguins.
The film, which stars George Clooney, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard, Shailene Woodley, Beau Bridges, and Robert Forster, is about a man who reconnects with his two daughters after his wife is put on life support after a boating accident and is also is also forced to face off with the man with whom she has been having an affair.
The New York Post says Payne's next film, 2012's “Nebraska,” about a father’s road trip with his estranged son, is in preproduction.
