New church network, Faith in Iowa, forms to counterbalance NOM, Bob Vander Plaats crowd

Iowa Independent
Linda Waddington, of the Iowa Independent reports that a new group, Faith in Iowa, met for the first time in Linn County Monday night.
“One of our concerns is that Bob Vander Plaats and his crowd are trying to impose a very singular Christian view on the entire state,” said Libby Slappey, a member of the congregation at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids where the initial public meeting was held...
“One of the things that has been evident to me as I’ve spoken with people,” said Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston, “is that many do not understand that the decision the court made has absolutely no bearing on individual religious freedom. The ruling does not and will never require any specific church or denomination to perform all marriages. The tenants of your faith remain the tenants of your faith.”
A perceived threat to freedom of religion was a contributing factor as to why Rev. Martha Rogers, rector for Christ Episcopal, became so out-spoken in the lead up to the November election. She, along with many other Iowa faith leaders, received a packet of information and other outreach efforts that were intended to shape the sermons and teachings of pastors throughout the state prior to the retention election.
